The Eighth Executive Committee meeting of ALive (EC8) will be held in Djibouti, March 27-30, under the auspices of IGAD.
The Steering Committee of the GF-TAds Afrique will open the meeting (day 1). On days 2 and 3, the institutional, financial and technical aspects of the partnership will be reviewed; of particular interest will be the confirmation of a regional strategy for the sustainable development of the livestock sector in Africa, upon which to build the second Three-year Action Plan of ALive (TAP2; 2007-2010). A representative of NEPAD will hopefully be able to participate in this session, so as to coherently articulate the TAP2 with the CAADP, which is now under an implementation phase. During this session, which will initiate a consultative process covering the period until the next General Assembly tentatively scheduled October 2007 (final validation of the TAP2), contributions from all the ALive partners will be crucial.
Finally, and to take advantage of the EC members' presence at IGAD Headquarters, an additional meeting day (March 30, 2007) will be dedicated to specifically focus on IGAD’s livestock portfolio as well as on the sub-regional constraints to the development of the livestock sector (in relation to the current Rift Valley Fever outbreaks and their implication in terms of international trade), with the visit of the newly built quarantine center.
The draft agendas (still under development) are attached for your information (EC8 Agenda; GF-TADs ST agenda, to come soon).
