CAPACITY BUILDING AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING - Data Analysis and Modelization System (DAMS)

  • Presentation of the activity / objectives

One of the constraints identified by ALive is the inability of most countries to analyze their livestock sectors, and particularly their poverty-related aspects, to formulate strategies, and to propose programs for both international and national funding. The need to model the livestock sector is acknowledged in ALive’s guidelines for analysis of livestock in developing countries. A modeling tool called DAMS (Multipurpose Agricultural Data Analysis and Modelization System) is therefore being made available. The objective is to develop a system that can not only handle PRSP-type sectoral analyses, but also serve as a tool for decision making when testing policy reform scenarios, for sector monitoring, and for analysis of regional-level and project-type proposals.
