The main purpose of ALive’s Policy Notes is to inform decision-makers in Africa and in the international community of recent developments or important constraints in key areas of livestock development in Sub-Saharan Africa, and to provide them with consensus-based and shared recommendations on priority activities to be carried out for the rational development of sector.
Four major bottlenecks to livestock development in Sub-Saharan Africa were initially identified in the ALive Concept Note, namely:
- access to water and to grazing resources; - availability of animal health services; - access to markets for livestock and animal-derived products; - sanitary standards and food safety.
Two other topics were subsequently added: - incorporation of relevant livestock issues into PRSPs. This note is intended to accompany the methodological guide for preparation of livestock PRSPs (see activity under Theme 3) - development of dairy smallholders. (to be completed)
Other subjects may be defined subsequently at the initiative of ALive’s General Assembly.
In accordance with the consensus-based and participatory process used in the preparation of ALive’s Policy Notes (see Theme 1), the recommendations contained therein have been discussed and validated by all stakeholders involved in livestock development in Africa.
This section includes only finalized Policy Notes (left side); the status of other Notes can be seen by clicking on Theme 1.
