  • Theme: Development of dairy smallholders

This policy note identifies the main obstacles to the expansion of small-scale dairy production in Sub-Saharan Africa, describes some examples of successful experiments, and makes recommendations regarding development policy in this sector and for priority investments. 

The envisaged themes are: (i) development of small-scale dairy production as a tool for rural development and poverty reduction; (ii) development of farm-level dairy production; (iii) provision of services needed for the development of dairy smallholders; and (iv) processing and marketing of milk and dairy products on behalf of smallholders.
